We worked as part of the in-house team at BBC Creative, brought in as their broadcast branding partners, to lead a team of talented motion designers in developing a motion and design system that unites the BBC’s network of channels on-air, so that whether BBC One, BBC Scotland or CBeebies, all curator channels connect back to the masterbrand.
Retooling of the BBC brand system across broadcast.
The design system not only creates a seamless flow, that connects the content to the brand, it also facilitates effortless cross promotion, strengthening the BBC’s position as creator brand with many access points.
In the past we had helped to make incremental updates to the BBC’s network of channels when the strategy was a house of brands, but as an organisation the BBC hadn’t had a design update for over 20 years, and having grown organically over decades it was made up of a lot of individual systems for different brands. Research showed that audiences felt the BBC services looked out of date and people wanted a modern BBC that was easier to navigate.
A truly collaborative endeavour, the project saw us work with BBC UX&D, the BBC Brand team and the brilliant Wolff Olins to deliver an experience upgrade like no other.
